Payment of the fees is split into two instalments. Please refer to the Application Form section of this website for more information.

REGISTRATION PROCESS AND PAYMENT OF FEES

1º- Reserving a place:

On receiving an acceptance letter from the LL.M. Directive Board, the student must complete his/her reservation by paying 1.200 euros. This payment guarantees the student a place on the course and is considered a down-payment that will be deducted from the total amount of the tuition fees (7.800 euros).

The deadline for paying the reservation fee is 15 days from the date of receipt of the acceptance letter. The reservation fee will only be returned if the student receives a full scholarship from the UAM.

2º- Enrolment and payment of fees:
In order to enrol the student must pay the remainder of the course fees in the following instalments:
  • 1st payment: This payment must be made between 1 and 30 September.
  • 2nd payment: This payment must be made between 1 and 31 January.
All fees must be paid into a specific current account, over the counter or a by bank transfer, details of the bank account being provided to the student in the letter of acceptance to the LL.M..

In order to complete enrolment in October the student must provide, together with the first instalment, a photocopy of his/her Spanish identity card or passport, two passport-sized photographs and a photocopy of his/her degree certificate, as well as the bank receipt proving payment of the fees.

OBTAINING STUDENT VISAS

Students from countries outside the EU must apply for a student visa, for which they will require the certificate of admission to the course, which is sent to the student once the initial reservation fee of 1.200 euros, has been received.

Internship

Duration and remuneration of interships

The official period for internships in Sponsoring Entities (equivalent to 9 ECTS credits–225 hours) runs from 1 June to 31 July. However, it is common for internships to begin earlier, in a timetable compatible with the academic demands of the LL.M.. The average length of internships is three months.

It is often possible for students to extend this period provided the student, the LL.M. Directive Board and the Sponsoring Entity agree.

Internships may or may not be remunerated. If remunerated, students are paid by the Sponsoring Entity. The amount of remuneration will vary according to the criteria of each company, law firm or entity where the work is carried out. Based on previous editions of the LL.M., approximately 75% of internships are remunerated.

Thesis

Students who do not wish to carry out an internship may submit a thesis, which is equivalent to 9 ECTS. Presentation and defence of thesis are governed by current regulations.

Admission and methodology

A maximum of 40 students are admitted.

All applicants must have a higher university degree (an undergraduate degree or bachelor’s degree) obtained in Spain or another European Union (EU) member state. Students with a degree from a non-EU country may also apply for the LL.M., as long as their degree qualifies them for postgraduate study in accordance with Spanish legislation.

All applicants must complete the on-line application form.

Teaching methodology and assessment

The teaching methodology of the LL.M. IP & IT is eminently practical, with a combination of participative classroom sessions, resolving case studies, working in groups to role-play contractual negotiations or litigation proceedings and participation in the internship programme in sponsoring entities.
The LL.M. IP & IT seeks to afford students as realistic an experience as possible, both in and out the classroom, paying special attention to aspects such as comparative law studies, command of English or exchange progammes with other European Universities, turning the students into lawyers distinguished by their training, goals and professional initiative.
Students can take advantage of an innovative Virtual Campus, where they can interact directly with the lecturers. The final assessment of the LL.M. takes into account continuous assessment of classroom work, written examinations (mid-course and final) and internships.
